The Glenlivet Office Putting Championship
CHICAGO, IL - Strong interest from Chicago area companies last year has prompted officials with The Glenlivet Office Putting Championship to expand this winter's competition.
"The marriage of golf and Scotch proved successful beyond belief for this winter golf tournament to find the champion indoor putter from Chicago's business community," said Greg Sherwood, tournament chairman. "Therefore, we are doubling the number of companies chosen to participate from 64 to 128."
Registration begins Jan. 4, 1999 and continues through January 22 for The Glenlivet Office Putting Championship. Interested company employees may call (877) SINK-PUTT (746-5788) for more information and to register.
Billed as being "more popular than the sport of office politics," The Glenlivet Office Putting Championship has all the excitement of championship golf--hazards, sharp doglegs, pressure-packed shots, and of course, prizes. What it doesn't have is unpredictable weather or proffessional golfers.
"We've taken what many professionals would consider is the toughest part of the game--the short game--and brought it indoors where the weather can't affect a February tournament," Sherwood said.
This season's 128 companies will be chosen at random from the complete pool of registrants. All will be notified between January 25 and January 29, 1999, if they have been selected to compete.
Once the companies are chosen, each will receive step-by-step rules, which are provided in an oak competition kit that also includes four event-logoed glasses and golf balls.
The tournament begins February 1, and continues through February 19, when the 128 companies conduct the in-office competitions. Employees compete internally to crown an office champion, who will represent their firm in the Chicago Citywide Finals.
The 128 company champions will compete at the Citywide Finals of The Glenlivet Office Putting Championship on Thursday, February 25 in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier. The event is open to the public over 21 years of age and admission is free. Both the in-office and Citywide Finals competitions will be match play format.
At the championship, players will be randomly paired in a 128-person single elimination bracket. Individual matches will consists of a five-hole match play competition. The player to survive seven rounds of matches will be crowned The Glenlivet Office Putting Champion.
In addition to the title, trophy and bragging rights, the champion will win a trip for four to Scotland to play courses such as St. Andrews and Royal Troon and tour The Glenlivet Distillery, home of The Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
The Glenlivet is marketed and distributed by Seagram Americas.
