Romy Cigars?
Dear CigarLife,
It is coming up to my boyfriend's and my anniversary and
I thought I would get him a cigar to celebrate, he is a fan of Kinky Friedman
and I have always loved the smell of a quality cigar. He had mentioned
something about Romy cigars, so I went to the tobacconist to look for them,
but the closest I could find was Romeo and Juliet cigars. Is Romy
an abbreviation, or have I gone to a poorly educated tobacconist? (the
other alternative is that my boyfriend has no idea as to what he is talking
about.)
Please help me, even if to only recommend a good brand
of cigar. The date is approaching fast!!
Yours, Margit Apponyi
I must admit, I have
never heard of Romy cigars. It doesn't mean they don't exist, just
that no one at CigarLife has heard of them. They could be a new brand
that got in under our RADAR.
In my opinion you should get him the Romeo Y Julieta's. The Churchill
that comes in the the tube is one of my personal all time favorites.
Besides, if the tobacconist has them in stock, it probably won't be for
long. If they're out, ask the tobacconist help you pick out a good
cigar.
Good luck, and happy anniversary.

A Credo question.
I recently purchased the CREDO model
Rondo Round humidifier from a local cigar store. They advised me
to use CIGAR FRESH 50/50 exclusively in it initially, and routinely thereafter.
Do you agree with this recommendation? Other information given talks
about using distilled water, with the Special Care Solution used periodically.
If you can reply and clear up my confusion, I would appreciate it.
Thanks. Jeffrey J. Glen
Do I agree with
this recommendation? Well, yes and no. Credo type humidifying
units use Propylene Glycol (P/G) to create a humidity regulating element.
The Cigar Fresh 50/50 is a solution of P/G and distilled water, in a fifty-fifty
mix, with a third proprietary ingredient. Credo's Special Care Solution
is basicly the same thing.
The Credo should come "charged" with P/G from the factory. All that's
necessary is for you to add DISTILLED water. Distilled water is free
of the contaminants that will "clog" the foam element over time.
Do not over fill the unit with the water. A tablespoon at first should
suffice. That's the no part.
Now for the yes part. The Credo unit should be recharged with fresh P/G
every six months or so, and the Cigar Fresh, or any other quality brand,
is great for that. Washing out the old solution, by soaking the unit
in distilled water over night, then allowing it to air dry for 24 hours
before recharging seems to work best.
I hope this helps. Remember, do not to overfill the unit, and
only use distilled water.

A pleasant suprise.
You occasionally see letters from people pointing out anti-cigar
sentiment in otherwise decent restaurants. For a little change of pace,
I'd like to tell you about a place that exemplified everything the cigar
smoking diner would like.
On Valentine's Day, I called the Magnolia Grille in Floral Park,
New York. Despite it being Valentine's Day, they gave me a reservation
for later that night. My wife and I arrived a bit early, and took a seat
in their second floor lounge. It was a beautiful locale, with comfortable
chairs and couches, music, and several fine magazines. We were a little
late in being seated due to the Valentine's rush, and an apologetic management
bought us free drinks (over our objections, they had given us reservations
on one of the busiest nights of the year on only a couple of hours notice).
When we were seated, free appetizers were brought to the table, again over
our protests that it was not necessary. (Continued)
