A unique table in Old Town.

By Brian Engle
On a recent trip to Old Town Alexandria, VA, I ventured into a humble looking café called Misha’s in search of the perfect cup of latte - not to much milk, absolutely no foam, and always a good dose of properly roasted and blended Expresso.  Upon entering I immediately realized that my fears of paying $4.00 only to be handed another cup of luke-warm milk with a few drops of brown food coloring that they have the nerve to call coffee, were over.  This place was a true coffee lover's heaven.  I have found a home for my first love - coffee.
Skipping the non-smoking traditional small café area of tables and chairs I took my grande, skim, flat (no foam), extra shot, latte and my not quite extinguished cigar and headed to the smoking friendly roasting room.  The roasting room contained, obviously - the roaster, large burlap bags of green coffee, and a large communal table with several of that day's news papers spread out and being shared by everyone.  As I sat down at this wonderful table I was amazed at the verity of  life before me - the college couple that looked as if they rolled out of bed with yesterday's clothes and came in for a quick caffeine fix, the grandmother talking to the 20 something guy who had the grunge look perfected, and much to my surprise, to my left was a certain supreme court judge, who had the problem with the hair on his can of Coke (I checked out his cup of coffee and all was fine) wow, what a group.
The young woman, Andrea, who was roasting that day's coffee approached me and my now dead stogie, and let me know that the owner was a cigar fancier and I was welcome to light up.  I sat back, re-lit my Montesino #2 and enjoyed my fine coffee, my fine cigar, with fine folks around a unique table in old town.  I found a home for my second passion - Cigars.
If you are a lover of fine coffee and near the Washington D.C. area, a visit to Misha’s is well worth the trip.  If you are a lover of coffee and a lover of cigars a trip to Misha’s is a must!
